Integrated Career Training
WDC Solar Inc, is an innovative provider of work-based solar energy training in Washington DC. Our work-based training consists of both classroom and hands-on job training. WDC Solar’s hands-on training coupled with classroom style, North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioner (NABCEP) training, provides interurban students with the specific skills necessary to jumpstart green careers, obtain their NABCEP certification and succeed in the solar energy market.
Over the years WDC Solar’s vision and scope have steadily expanded in response to difficulties finding qualified solar applicants. From its recruitment and hiring practices, WDC Solar observed first-hand the lack of solar experience and technical knowledge among the numbers of workers needed to fill positions within WDC Solar and the sustainable energy industry as a whole. Facing this dilemma and in keeping in line with its desire to bring resources to low-income, under-served communities and filling the void in the sustainable energy labor force, WDC Solar has spent a considerable amount of time and resources giving solar installation training classes, at no cost, to low-income residents in the District of Columbia. Through the training program, many course graduates have been able to secure long term employment as solar installers in the burgeoning Green economy.

WDC Solar has developed a comprehensive solar training curriculum targeting interurban “at-risk youth “. Home Builders Institute ("HBI"), the workforce development arm of the National Association of Home Builders, entered an agreement with WDC Solar in the summer of 2011 to incorporate WDC Solar’s solar installation training curriculum into HBl's Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training ("PACT") program, certified by the United States Department of Labor. As part of HBl’s PACT program, WDC Solar’s installation training curriculum provides low-income and socially disadvantaged youth across the country the opportunity to acquire the skills necessary to play a significant role in the "Green Revolution". This program provides comprehensive work-based training in the design, installation, operations, and maintenance of solar systems. Students are taught to install solar systems on residential, commercial, government and non- profit entities, such as churches.
